The licensed nurse role in NE ALFs is unique and primarily focuses on the medication management of residents and oversight of unlicensed personnel. Direction and monitoring are key indicators related to whom the medication aide should report.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand the role of the RN and licensed nurse in an ALF. 
  2. Locate the medication aide act and rules.
  3. Explain how to properly oversee and utilize certified medication aides in an ALF. 
  4. Demonstrate appropriate documentation required when utilizing medication aides.
  5. Review common malpractices that jeopardize resident care and safety.
